Our philanthropic arm, the Smithfield-Luter Foundation, has long had a partnership with Christopher Newport University. In 2005, the Foundation gave a $5 million gift to the University to help fund their business school, as well as to help fund the Presidents’ Leadership Program (PLP).
One of the highlights of the year for our Smithfield management team is having the opportunity to interact with these high-achieving students at a reception at the beginning of each school year. As a part of PLP, students participate in a lecture series, must maintain a minimum GPA, obtain a leadership minor, and live in a dorm along with other students in the program.
We are proud to be a part of such a great program, and can’t wait to see what these students achieve as they enter the professional world.
